OSW: the request line

| | Comments (13) | TrackBacks (3)

Vote, damnit.

I could have done a Monday morning Bakers Dozen. but I literally couldn't come up with 12 entries. Work. It be's that way sometimes. I'm able to come up with the tunes though.

Old School Wednesday: The Request Line.

I tried to keep the tunes selected as ones from the 80's, since that was the most requested (thank you Studpoet). I tried to get as many requests in as I possibly could, and there were quite a few. The IM sessions - they just didn't stop....

1. Klymaxx - Wild Girls. This starts off the set, because I had to rip this from vinyl. This is from Klymaxx's first album, and also a single which was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis - their very first production of a band. Warning: the song sounds a bit on the rough side, so if it gets to you, just jump to the next one.
2. Lushus Daim and the Pretty Vain - More Than You Can Handle. Second one coming from vinyl. Same disclaimer as the first- a bit choppy. Produced by Leon Sylvers.
3. The Jets - Crush on You. I had to come up with tunes from the 80s by request, so this is the first thing came to mind.
4. Mary Jane Girls - In My House.
5. Atlantic Starr - Circles.
6. New Edition - Cool It Now.
7. Shalamar - This Is For The Lover In You. Had a very specific request for this one. Who am I to let the ladies down?
8. Robbie Nevil - C'est La Vie. Blue eyed soul.
9. Whodini - The Freaks Come Out At Night. I had to put them on. There needs to be more hip hop on this mix though. Next time, people, next time.
10. Evelyn Champaigne King - Love Come Down.
11. The Jones Girls - You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else. While my mother and her friends were singing this song with reckless abandon, I was more in tune with the bass line. Still can't get it out of my head.
12. Zapp Band - Doo Wa Ditty (Blow That Thang). There were a couple of tunes to choose from, most notably Dance Floor. Only problem was, the single I had was 8 minutes long. While I'm sure I would have grooved to it, I couldn't place it anywhere in the mix. Thus, Doo Waa Ditty.
13. Zapp and Roger - Computer Love. Featuring vocals from Shirley Murdock and Charlie Wilson from...
14. The GAP Band - Outstanding. How many times have you heard samples from this song? Better yet, name them all.
15. Pebbles - Mercedes Boy. With production and background vocals from Charlie Wilson. Simplistic.
16. Patrice Rushen - Forget Me Nots. Still a classic.
17. Teena Marie - Portugese Love. A classic closer.

Giving love back. Hope y'all enjoy.

See, now I'm officially worried.

I have this little hometown which I never go to because there's not much to see and not much to do. Figuratively.

Well, that was before. Now it's literally.

As I'm driving my car, I get a call. "Yeah, well, Person 1's house's roof just got ripped off, and then the back of Person 2's trailer got ripped off, so everyone was hoping to stay with her, but it's not as if she has the back of her trailer, so they can't really stay there, and a tree fell on Person 3's trailer, so her house is totally destroyed. It's hard to get around because there are trees everywhere in the middle of the road....."

To make matters worse, there's no water, and electricity? It won't be on until the 25th. That really sucks. The town is now a disaster area. The huge plus is that some of us have relocated and can assist. The huge minus is that we have exactly 48 hours before we have to be back at work.

And of course, a certain blogger lives down there and of course, her phone doesn't answer.

Geeze.

Picture this - I'm sitting here watching The Apprentice. The task? For them to make a new flavor for their ice cream and sell it. That's two new flavors to be created.

Flavors.
Flavors!!
See where I'm going with this?
Oh, da hell with it! *wink*

Friday Melodies XVI.

This mix is a thank-you for a couple of people who sent CDs to me, plus a little bit of a tease to some of the bloggers who have been expressing interest to certain tunes from previous radio blogs and exponent. You know who you are.

01 - Anthony David - Spittin' Game. For a certain person who swoons over Anthony David melodies. One word: inspired.
02 - Nubian Minds featuring KJ - Dreaming. Three words: mack daddy cut. From Unabombers: Electric Soul 2.
03 - Blue Six - Pure. This is for someone who was looking for Naked Music: Bare Essentials, Volume 1.
04 - Dynasty - I've Just Begun to Love You. Someone didn't remember anything from Dynasty, so I had to pull this out of the crate. A little head noddin' old school.
05 - Only Child featuring Niko - Show Me Love. Off of Only Child's Solitaire and Grand Central Translation: A Mix by Qool DJ Marv.
06 and 07 - Nicki Richards' Sunshine and DJ Chus and David Penn featuring Darren J. Bell's Sunshine (Mediterranean Vocal Mix). Sunshine personified.
08 - Wendy and Lisa - Everyday. From Fruit at the Bottom.
09 - Fertile Ground - Live In The Light. From ...Black Is.
10 - St. Juste - Big Shoes. A cool guy named Ian, the maestro of Notes from A Different Kitchen, dropped this my way. Pound pound.
11 - Ernesto - Especial. Pulling yet another one out of my stack.
12 - Incognito - True To Myself. Back to the mellow.

Back to watch the the ice cream melt.

baker's dozen: the three B's.

Uppity-Negro.

Baker's Dozen... the three B's: bethink, Brak and balding. From KB's Bakers Dozen.

1. I'm much better at the start of this week, because getting off early and being in an IM session with two of the warmest people you'd ever wanna meet both online and offline and talking about so many things in such a small stretch of time is quite cool and uplifting.
2. Still shouldn't forget to reflect tomorrow (Tuesday) on the man who touched quite a few people, both on and offline. Just remember, Any Road Up. Bethink indeed.
3. People, if you see a shiny dome on top of my head, it should be revered. An impending bald spot is synonymous with transforming into an Isaac Hayes wannabe. Must get my hair cut today...
4. Please, if you have a pet, and she sees little things like blue pills laying around the floor, she should not treat them as candy, but alert the housemates that the visitors have dropped the wrong kind of "doggie treats" on the floor. I'm just sayin'.
5. Am I cool for liking The Brak Show or what?
6. Am I uncool for not vibing to either Jill Scott or Anita Baker this weekend?
7. RogueAngel? Me and you, eye to eye. It's a good thing. We're gonna have to chat again. And yeah, I'm gonna get off my butt and blog more...
8. I'm not so sure I'm feeling The Apprentice this season, but we'll see just how interesting it's going to be.
9. I wasn't the only one drinking 'tinis on Saturday.
10. cream cheese cheesy cheesy cream cheese cheesy cream....
11. I painlessly upgraded to 3.11 and even installed MT-NowPlaying this weekend (look towards the right at what I'm vibing to now), after the 'tini's of course. iTunes...it's like crack.
12. ..and speaking of crack, I can think of three more: The Real World Philadelphia, Alias (now how it plans on coming back in January is killing me), and The Wire.

I had this sitting out for a while, and didn't post last week. I'm going to lift my spirits though, and let's hope I can lift yours.

Friday Melodies XIII.

01. Sincere - The Foreign Exchange with Yahzarah. This is a song I see being released from The Foreign Exchange - being that I haven't seen any releases as of yet, I'm anxious to hear something.
02. Talk to Me - Jill Scott. I haven't received an *umph* yet from this album, but this track speaks volumes.
03. Another Day - Fertile Ground. From the new release Black Is.... I'm currently vibing with them.
04 & 05. Grenique and Heatwave - Star of the Story. There were a couple of comments left that suggested that Grenique's remake of Star of the Story was not good. Asking your opinion now....which one is better, in your opinion?
06. Anthony David - Heartstrings. I'm absorbing the low key song. Saw him as an opening act for Omar and the album is much better than I expected. I'll be featuring more as the month goes on.
07. Beanfield with Ernesto - Someone Like You. Electronica vibrations.
08. Loopless - Educated Fools (Waiting On).
09, 10, and 11. Minneapolis representation - Be Your Man from Jesse Johnson, Housequake from Prince, and Shortberry Strawcake, from Sheila E.

I'm whistling Star of the Story - trying to get past the hurt.
