Let's do it again.

Old School Wednesday : Back In The Day, Volume 3.
(Problems with javascript/browser? Click here.)

01 - Skyy - Call Me
02 - Quincy Jones - Ai No Corrida
03 - Rufus - Do You Love What You Feel?
04 - Cheryl Lynn - Shake It Up Tonight
05 - Central Line - Walking Into Sunshine
06 - Patti Austin - Do You Love Me?
07 - Evelyn Champagne King - Betcha She Don't Love You
08 - Mico Wave - Instant Replay
09 - Isley Brothers - Harvest For The World
10 - Kenny Loggins - Heart To Heart
11 - Earth, Wind & Fire - Side By Side
12 - The Sylvers - I Wish That I Could Talk To You
13 - El Debarge - Someone
14 - Stacy Lattisaw - Every Drop Of Your Love

We've got Quincy Jones production here three times, with Do You Love What You Feel, Ai No Corrida and Do You Love Me? We have a vocoder in use with Instant Replay. There's groovin' all over the place with Betcha She Don't Love You, Shake It Up Tonight, Call Me, and Walking Into Sunshine. And of course, there's strong singing with Harvest Of The World, Heart To Heart, and Side By Side. I Wish That I Could Talk To You and Someone is reminiscent of the youth of the 80s (which I can definitely identify with), while Every Drop Of You Love is one of the best releases Stacy Lattisaw has graced us with.

Bonus round. 1. Identify a song which samples the cut Walking Into Sunshine; 2. Who sings co-lead on Heart To Heart?

Special daps to CoachMVP, Wayne, and Gwendolina, who are killing me with their musical prowess. Enjoy.

In Rotation: 02/17/2006

I'm still reeling over the passing over Jay Dee, and while I thought about placing him into a radio blog rotating his tunes, I looked around and saw that Todd Kelley had already done it (and a damn good job he had done too), and Jay Smooth had links to others, so there was no need to redo something that had been done so perfectly.

Well, less than 24 hours later, I had received word that Lynden David Hall had died from cancer. He was 31. Todd and Anitra gave me a little inspiration to perhaps focus on England while giving my respects to Lynden. I was more than happy to do so. Presenting:

In Rotation 02/17/06 : British Soul.
(Problems with javascript/browser? Click here.)

01 - Lynden David Hall - Stay Faithful. From his current album In Between Jobs.
02 - Omar - I Guess.
This is from the album Best By Far and is the introducing track. The horn section accentuates this track perfectly.
03 - Shola Ama - All Mine.
Written and produced by the members of D-Influence. From Much Love.
04 - Loose Ends - Time Is Ticking.
From Look How Long. Lead vocals by Linda Carriere, formerly from Dynasty.
05 - Craig David - Fill Me In.
Remember this one? From Born To Do It.
06 - The Sunburst Band - Far Beyond.
Joey Negro does it again with this track from Until The End Of Time, one of my favorite cuts.
07 - Lewis Taylor - My Aching Heart.
The blue eyed soulster does it as he always does. From Lewis II.
08 - Incognito - Show Me Love.
Lead vocals? Why, Carleen Anderson of course. Off of the new album, Eleven.
09 - D'Influence - Magic.
One of my favorite cuts from D'Influence is this track. From London.
10 - Jamiroquai - Everyday.
Mellow cut from Travelling Without Moving.
11 - Don-E - Me Oh My.
From Unbreakable.
12 - Lynden David Hall - Do I Qualify?
My favorite track from Medicine 4 My Pain.
13 - Seal - Walk On By (Babyface Remix).
I had not realized that Seal remade this song, which has been remade so many times I've stopped trying to keep count. From the EP Walk On By.
14 - Magic Number - Suddenly.
From one of the greatest abums of 2004, That Day.
15 - Santessa - Irresistible.
From Delirium, produced by Stuart Matthewman, the Sade, Sweetback, and Maxwell wunderkind.

May Lynden David Hall rest in peace. Enjoy.

We preempt Old School Wednesday this week for the special occasion known as Valentines Day, in a more comprehensive mix:

Old School Tuesday : Valentines Day 2006.
(Problems with javascript/browser? Click here.)

01 - Alexander O'Neal - Do You Wanna Like I Do
02 - Quincy Jones featuring Patti Austin - Somethin' Special
03 - Loose Ends - Sweetest Pain
04 - Atlantic Starr - Send for Me
05 - Switch - I Wanna Be Closer
06 - Stevie Wonder - Ribbon in the Sky
07 - Heatwave - The Star of The Story
08 - Donny Hathaway & Roberta Flack - You Are My Heaven
09 - Jermaine Jackson - You Like Me Don't You (Single Version)
10 - One Way - Lady You Are
11 - Deniece Williams - Free
12 - Anita Baker - You're The Best Thing Yet
13 - Skyy - When You Touch Me
14 - Sade - Kiss of Life
15 - Enchantment - It's You That I Need
16 - Etta James - At Last
17 - Phoebe Snow - Poetry Man
18 - Chaka Khan - My Funny Valentine
19 - Spandau Ballet - True
20 - Swing Out Sister - You Already Know
21 - Van Morrison - Someone Like You
22 - Gino Vannelli - I Just Wanna Stop
23 - Player - Baby Come Back
24 - The Art of Noise - Moments in Love
25 - The Time - Gigolos Get Lonely Too
26 - Bootsy Collins - I'd Rather Be With You
27 - Prince - Adore
28 - Isley Brothers - Atlantis

I wanted to give a little of the old school staples, like Deniece Williams's classic Free, and Heatwave's Star Of The Story, one of my personal top 5 all-time classics. But I thought it be essential to pull out some of blue-eyed soul, like Player's Baby Come Back or some cuts that were played way back in the day, like Phoebe Snow's Poetry Man. Also, there is no way I could possibly forget my cassette tapes and 12 inch songs that I've bought at least 3 copies of, like Moments In Love and Gigolos Get Lonely Too, essentials for the cool dudes from around the way.

I consider myself one of "least romantic" people out there, as I told my homeslice PhillyKat better known as The Romantical Chick. She gave me that push that I needed. Enjoy it. Hey, and if Valentines Day isn't your bag, you could always do something like let EJ know what you think about him (snatched from George and Hopluv.) Don't be shy.

Happy Valentines Day to you and yours!

OSW: Stress Reliever

I work too many hours at work apparently, and almost didn't have enough time to do this. Luckily they cut me a break. It's a good thing too, because I was just about to go postal. This was what I needed to calm down.

Old School Wednesday : Stress Reliever.
(Problems with javascript/browser? Click here.)

01 - The Whispers - In the Raw
02 - Cameo - She's Strange
03 - Slave - I'll Be Gone
04 - Prince - Anotherloverholenyohead
05 - Isaac Hayes - Three Tough Guys: Hung Up On My Baby (Instrumental)
06 - Michael Jackson - I Wanna Be Where You Are
07 - Deniece Williams - I Found Love
08 - Angela Bofill - What I Wouldn't Do (For The Love Of You)
09 - Roberta Flack - Oasis
10 - Atlantic Starr - Touch a Four Leaf Clover
11 - Rose Royce - I Wanna Get Next to You
12 - Steve Arrington - Sugar Mama Baby
13 - The System - Supernatural
14 - Lisa Stansfield - Sincerity
15 - Mica Paris - You Can Make A Wish

In The Raw and She's Strange are some serious forces to be reckoned with, since they have great high school memories for me. While Slave and Prince are serious grooves (of course), Isaac Hayes' Three Tough Guys: Hung Up On My Baby should sound familiar to you, especially since it was sampled by a hip-hop track you should be familiar with. I'm waiting to see who comes up with it first.

After Michael Jackson's hit, there's a cut from Deniece Williams that was seldom played, I Found Love, as was Angela's What I Wouldn't Do (For The Love Of You). Roberta Flack, Atlantic Starr, and of course Rose Royce are recognizable, I'm sure, but what about Supernatural? Rounding out the mix, we have Lisa Stansfield and Mica Paris.

Special thanks to Thierno and Coach MVP down there in South Alabama for the special touches. Hope you enjoy.
