Live and In Full Effect

| | Comments (2)
I'm pretty sure you've guessed that this weekend, I decided to go live with MT 4 and cleanup the layout and (hopefully) the commenting issue. This is so I can continue with providing what everyone is looking for- content with suitable visual effects.  If you take a look around with the first page, you'll see on the left:

1. The Doorway: Various ways to contact me, gift me, and find out more about me.
2. From My Headphones: What I'm listening to right now on iTunes.
3. Tag Cloud:  Various ways of sorting through blogs (will be enhanced further to be more explicit).
4. Omnipresence: Technical information and various feeds.  For the extremely technical at heart.
5. Monthly Archives.
6. Voices:  Comments from a variety of sources.

On the right hand side, you'll see some much more near-real-time information about me, like:

1. Search.
2. last.fm: Music I've been playing from a variety of sources like iTunes and Media Center, from last.fm.
3. Twitter Vibe: What I've been doing throughout the day, from Twitter.
4. Flickr Vibe: Photography (or lack thereof), from Flickr.
5. Categories. There are also comment links displayed on the top of an entry versus the bottom.

There are a few kinks that need to be worked out, like:

1.  More of the information above located on each page, for easy accessibility from whatever page you're on. [Fixed 07.31.07]
2.  Omniscience: Blogs I read on a normal basis.
3.  Verification of comment issues being rectified. [Fixed 08.01.07]
4.  Fixes of links under Voices.  [Fixed 07.31.07]
5.  More real representation of tags (AKA Tag Clouds.)
6.  More graphical representation of EJFlavors.com
7.  An "About EJ" link.

If there's anything else you see that is an issue, please by all means, let me know. Please be patient: this has been done over the span of about 10 hours, which is the quickest time it's taken me to revamp a site..

There's been lots of things going on during the past week, so let me get you up to speed instead of just dropping the OSWs. First, I hung out in Chicago for my birthday, which was absolutely wonderful. I met some good people and ate and drank enough for quite a few vacations. Now that the wonderul days have passed, I've had to make up for this time and basically work more than 50 hours week for the next 6 months. Things are going to get a little tough, that's for sure, but it's going to be worth it. As a matter of fact, I'm just finally putting the podcast and Theresa's spin on the tunes on the Yay Area Mix, so check it out.

Another thing that's been going on is that this has finally been the week that I've grown absolutely tired of some of the quirky things going on on my site. Some comments won't make it, and I've been having to approve valid comments. For this reason, I'm going to do a revamp of the website. I want to try to make some of the changes relatively soon, but some of the OSWs may not be able to be done quickly, like one for this week.

What I've done is decided to pull some of the mixes back before podcasts were being done on this site, and from time to time mix them to make up for not being able to come up with OSWs in time. This will help with keeping the continuity going. There will be a new one next week, so don't worry - I've got it covered for the next two OSWs. If there are any other OSW that you're waiting on podcasts for, let me know, and I'll make sure to put those in the top of the list. This week's podcast comes from December 14th, 2005. I've renamed it:

Old School Wednesday: Warmth, Volume II.

Enjoy, and again, if there's anything else you're looking for, let me know. Take it light, and thanks for your patience.

Thanks to Theresa's knowlege, I was able to come up with this list. What did she have to say? Well, read on:

First, Props to EJ for allowing me to contribute on a long-standing “sacred” tradition – OSW. Thank you Mr 31 Flavors! This weeks collection of Yay Area music is especially close to my heart and I’ll tell you why. In some way, shape or form, I know most of these folks! And these songs hold a personal significance for me.

Sly & The Family Stone: Everyday People: We start it off with a dude who used to DJ for KDIA and was let go for playing all his own music! Mr Sly Stone himself – wow the Blonde Mohawk and silver suit at the 2006 Grammys was, well…. interesting…..I really like this tune and the Grammy folks sure let him be himself though KDIA did not! This tune just flat makes me happy.
Tower of Power: – “Aint nothing I can say, nothing I can do….” This is a song of conviction - LOVE IT!!– I think the Incognito folks were taking notes from ToP.
Pointer Sisters – He’s so shy – Why do I have a vision of Isaac from Love Boat on this one. Did y’all see that episode? This isn’t my fav PS tune but they did their thang as always. We move on to:
ConFunkShun – Michael Cooper and Felton Pilate are great guys. Who can deny the power of the music that came from them? I met Michael when he came to King Jay records to do the “Prove My Love” project. He has always been that “uncle” figure that you stay in awe of – The signature of the early Foster/McElroy sound is SUPA strong on this cut – Big ups to Mike holdin it down on this one. Hated the album cover!
Aah... Club Nouveau…Jay King singing in the verse – Lawd…nuff said. Well this song has an interesting history since Michael Marshall used it in his production of “I Got 5 on it” – seceret message there? I’ll leave it at that.
Broken Puzzle!!!! Ha! I love this song! It is one of the best on the album - very well produced. Theresa sure does sang this heartbreak song – Didja know this song had a third verse that never made it onto the album? – sigh….Lyrics written By Valarie Watson of Club Nouveau.
LaRue – There’s Love Out There – only thing missing from this song? My girl Jaquie LaRue singing in it. AAAAAHHH! Channel 2 – these kids could sing – what happened? I do love this tune, though not so classic Denny & Tommy.
EnVouge – The baddest chick group in a while – I LIKE this song – is this the first time a female covered that Michael Jackson piece? DR Soul, Tommy was the Master impressionist – I loved that about him; such a funny guy. These guys will always be dear to me. Diggin Mc Lyte on the rap!
The Underground – Digital, that is. Shimme, Shimme, coco pop- What is Chocolate Crossover? I soooo dig this song - except for the physical abuse part. Hahahaha! Something about Q-tip on this is nice.
The Tony’s as they are called here – This was so the bomb album! These guys took it up a notch on this production effort. Hats off!
Pebbles – still I like her faster cuts better – but this was aiight.
Miss Rosie Gaines – a master vocalist – her voice is like an instrument. I love seeing her live. She is such a nice lady she has this mesmerizing aura…she’s amazing! Go to her website so you can hear her sing “Welcome to my website! Its muy cool! www.rosiegaines.com.

Take it light!

The story goes like this: I had gotten another CD from a group back in the day and had been playing them and coming up with this week's OSW. While I was coming up with the tracklist, I did a check for a duo named Theresa who had a slammin' single back in the day called Last Time. The track was a very popular track in 1987-1988 and was played in the rollerskating rinks and on the radio, and the video was in rotation BET. The duo's name was Theresa, consisting of Theresa King and Victor Porter. I remembered them because I had purchased two copies of their cassette, Broken Puzzle.

While my initial searches to find this kept turning up empty, I kept looking. After a couple of months of searching, I finally found a match- there was a reference of the album on MySpace. After a couple of messages later, not only was I able get a couple of tracks from the album, but I was also able to communicate directly with Theresa who had a request for this mix. I was glad to provide. She made my job extremely easy.

I know you remember these tracks from back in the day. I'm sure they will jog your memory. She's caused me to pull out songs I haven't heard in years. In fact, the next mixes that you'll hear this month are already on their way to being set up, thanks to her musical knowledge, so definitely stay tuned.

Take it light!
