OSW: Time Out.

| | Comments (2)

Better late than never, right? Too much work, not enough play for me. That's alright, when there's a will, there's a way. Here we go.

Old School Wednesday: Time Out.

Podcast coming soon.

01 - Howard Johnson - Let's Take Time Out
02 - Kashif - Lover Turn Me On
03 - Full Force - Friends B 4 Lovers
04 - Cashmere - Light of Love
05 - Paul Johnson - Fear Of Falling
06 - Kathy Mathis - While I'm Dreaming
07 - Juicy - After Loving You
08 - Elvis Costello - Everyday I Write The Book
09 - Yarbrough & Peoples - Wrapped Around Your Finger
10 - Tease - Soft Music
11 - George Benson - Kisses in the Moonlight
12 - Earth Wind and Fire - Love's Holiday
13 - Narada Michael Walden - Blue Side Of Midnight
14 - Quincy Jones - The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)

Howard Johnson and Kashif starting out the collection is a great thing, and with Full Force, Cashmere and English singer Paul Johnson (remember Junior) continuing it, it's a nice intro. Kathy Mathis's slept-on cut (with production by Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy) is one of my favorites. I then give you some Juicy followed by a track a little to the left side by Elvis Costello.

Yarbrough and Peoples is followed by Tease (remember Chuckii Booker? Sure you do!) It's then followed by the fantastic four - George, E&F, Narada and Quincy. My apologies for the lateness, and the podcast (along with some verbal commentary by yours truly) should be up in the next 24 hours.

Take it light.

OSW: Something About You

I can honestly say that I have returned with a vengeance. Thanks to Todd Grundy and a host of enthusiastic people, I've finally been able to branch out and dig deeper into the crates. Stay tuned for more tunes coming up. For now, I went ahead and pulled out some great 80s tunes- some well known, others rarely heard at all. It's:

04 - B.B. & Q. Band - On The Shelf
05 - Pieces Of A Dream - What Can I Do

07 - Heatwave - Mind What You Find
08 - Dayton - It Must Be Love
09 - Pleasure - Strong Love

11 - Bert Robinson - Heart Of Gold
12 - Mtume - Body And Soul (Take Me)
13 - Brownstone - Grapevyne
14 - One Way - If You Play Your Cards Right
15 - Lakeside - Real Love

Vesta starts it off with a great tune, followed by two great singers from England, Caron Wheeler and Lance Ellington. Then we've got the BB&Q Band, followed by one of the great jazz-soul groups, Pieces Of A Dream. We follow it up with Heatwave before we dig into the crates for Heatwave, Dayton, and Pleasure.

Mary Jane Girls, Bert Robinson, and Mtume slow it down, followed by Brownstone's strong vocals. We end it with two gems from back in the day with One Way and Lakeside rounding out the mix.

I was so excited about this mix (and being able to do it sooner), I went ahead and did the podcast on time this time. By all means, grab it and let me know how you like it.

Take it light.

I won't lie. I don't consider myself a disco-head, but I'm nodding my head to these tunes. I will be playing podcast catch-up in the next 24 hours since I have more time, so watch out for that. In addition, thanks to some help from the maestro, I do believe the mixes for the rest of the year will be very different, very fresh, and a little on the more innovative side, so watch out for them.

Take it light.
